Cult Chocolate Drink shop Knoops launches in with 15% Student Discount
OVER 20 CHOCOLATE PERCENTAGES TO CHOOSE FROM FOR HOT AND COLD CHOCOLATE DRINKS WITH A DIFFERENCE
Knoops (www.knoops.co.uk), the pioneering British brand that is revolutionising chocolate drinks with its fully customisable chocolate percentage menu, is launching in Oxford on 11 February with a new store at 21 Turl Street.
Knoops has a cult following in London, Sussex and Brighton and is pegged to be a huge hit with locals, tourists and the student population. The new destination store will offer a plethora of delicious and bespoke chocolate drinks, all made with a choice of different chocolate percentages that are blended in-store by trained ‘Knoopologists’, offering a completely tailored drink.
Knoopology is the ultimate personalisation process and is a four-step method. Individuals choose their preferred hot or cold drink followed by their chocolate percentage, then their milk, before finally enhancing their beverage with flavoursome add-ons. The drink is poured out as a smooth hot chocolate, or over cold milk and ice for an iced chocolate. On warmer days, the drink can be blended with ice cream for a delicious milkshake.
Fitting seamlessly into Oxford city centre’s offering of boutique businesses, the Knoops store will be situated on the popular Turl Street, appealing to locals, students and tourists alike, with the busy Oxford city walking and bus tours kicking off right around the corner.
Those looking to complement their drink with a tasty bite can decide between a range of baked goods sourced fresh from Gatineau (www.gatineau.uk.com), the quintessential Oxford artisan bakery which will provide its famous pastries.
Visitors can choose from the full range of chocolate percentages for their bespoke hot or cold chocolate experience. There are 20 different types to select, from a sweet, creamy 28% White all the way up to the deep, rich cocoa flavour of the 100% Extra Dark from the Solomon Islands. Knoops also has a diverse plant-based offering. All of the chocolates that are 54 percent and over are suitable for vegans and there are also six non-dairy milks available.
Shoppers can also purchase gifts and keepsakes from the store, including the pioneering new cookbook, Knoops – Chocolate recipes through the day. The recipe book features 40 drinks and 20 dishes, all created using Knoops chocolate flakes and ingredients found in most kitchen cupboards.
Students will be drawn to the popular hot and cold chocolate venue too, with Knoops just a short walk to the University of Oxford and surrounding colleges such as Exeter, Jesus, , Trinity and others. They can also benefit from a fantastic discount of 15% on all hot and cold drinks, making Knoops the perfect study aid drink or a delicious takeaway option between classes.
Knoops is led by international chocolatier Jens Knoop, who founded his brand on the original concept of Knoopology: the art of crafting the perfect chocolate drink. The brand launched in 2013, opening its first store in Rye, East Sussex, and now has four further outlets across key London neighbourhoods and a coastal store in Brighton. Jens will be at the Oxford store to meet and greet visitors between 12th – 14th February.
Jens Knoop, founder of Knoops comments: “We’re pleased to welcome Oxford locals, visitors and tourists to the new Knoops store on Turl Street‘. Visiting Knoops is an experience where we connect our customers with their love of chocolate, delivering a real hug in a mug. Notes to Editors
Knoopology is the ultimate personalisation process and is a four-step method. Individuals choose their preferred hot or cold drink followed by their chocolate percentage, then their milk, before finally enhancing their chocolate with flavoursome add-ons. Pour out into a mug or bowl for a smooth hot chocolate, or over cold milk and ice for an iced chocolate. Blend with ice cream for a delicious milkshake.

Knoops release a monthly in-store seasonal special chocolate drink, for exciting additions throughout the year.
Customers can choose from the full range of chocolate percentages for their bespoke hot chocolate experience. There are 20 different types to select, from a sweet, creamy 28% White all the way up to the deep, rich cocoa flavour of the 100% Extra Dark from the Solomon Islands. In between, there’s a 39% Single Origin from Ecuador with notes of nougat, vanilla & almonds, a 47% Cocoa Blend with a pinky hue and notes of sweet red berries and a 73% Single Origin from the Philippines with notes of citrus, honey and caramel, amongst many others. The At-Home Experience
The Knoops online store sells the ingredients, appliances and recipe book to empower individuals to get creative and experience the joy of creating delicious chocolate drinks at home, just like the trained ‘Knoopologists’ in store.
Chocolate lovers can make a delicious pilgrimage to one of the Knoops stores in London or Sussex, or become a Knoopologist themselves, purchasing the contents they need from the brand’s website, as well as using fresh herbs, fruits and spices from the kitchen to create the unique Knoops experience at home. Individuals can choose to make their own creation or be inspired by one of Jens Knoop’s many recipes available on the website.
Plant-Based and Sustainability
Knoops has a diverse plant-based offering. All of the chocolates that are 54 percent and over are suitable for vegans and there are also five non-dairy milks from Minor Figures and Rude Health to choose from, including oat, soya, coconut, hazelnut and almond.
Knoops is committed to sustainability. The brand uses as much recycled, recyclable and compostable materials as it can for everything, from the chocolate flakes packaging, to the takeaway cups and even its store design. It only sources completely traceable chocolate that positively impacts the local communities where it is produced and has partnered with a select group of chocolate makers who are genuinely committed to improving the sustainability of their cocoa.
Knoops Founder, Jens Knoop, carefully selects the chocolates that feature in the chocolate library himself. They use only fully traceable blends, so the brand knows which cooperatives contributed to each cup – alongside a number of single origins from a range of cocoa-growing regions, from Peru and Colombia, to Tanzania and Madagascar.
Founder Jens Knoop
At the heart of the brand, is founder Jens Knoop’s passion for chocolate and the joy it can bring. Jens has had a strong relationship with chocolate since his childhood in rural Germany. In 2013, he decided to share his passion and opened the first Knoops store in Rye, East Sussex.
Having observed that chocolate drinks were so often underloved; an afterthought on café menus or the preserve of high-end chocolatiers, he set about creating a business fully centered on drinking chocolate, both hot and cold. He started to experiment, making the truly personalised drinks that you can enjoy in Knoops today, and he’s built up an encyclopedic knowledge of the taste profiles of many different chocolates. Coincidentally, his Dutch name “Knoop” means “button” – fitting for someone who makes drinks out of chocolate buttons!
Jens has spent the last eight years (about 10,000 hours) perfecting these drinks combining different percentage cocoas, with a range of milks and fruits, roots and spices. He named this process “Knoopology” – and it’s an ongoing journey, with new flavour combinations still being discovered.
