The Oxford Sinfonia is delighted to welcome back George Caird to conduct them in a programme featuring Gerard Flotats playing Dvorak’s Cello Concerto No1. They start with Smetana’s Overture The Bartered Bride and conclude with Beethoven’s Symphony No 6 ‘Pastoral’.

Catalan cellist Gerard Flotats is a versatile young musician, winning the Royal Over-Seas League Strings Competition in 2023. He was the principal cellist of the European Union Youth Orchestra (EUYO) and is an active member of many orchestras including the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment (OAE) and the Spanish National Orchestra (ONE).
George Caird has combined a career as an oboist with one as a music educationalist, including spending 17 years as Principal of Royal Birmingham Conservatoire. He has worked with many of London’s major orchestras , including of The Academy of St. Martin-in-the-Fields. He also devotes much time to chamber music, notably as a founder-member of The Albion Ensemble, Vega Wind Quintet and Caird Oboe Quartet.
As always accompanied children are free, programme is included and seating unallocated.
