From 11th to 19th September 2021 we host a special exhibition – Buns at the Museum, a history of throwing buns.

The week will begin with a talk on Saturday 11th September at 11am by Elin Bornemann about Grinling Gibbons. She describes his inspirations and practice in front of the stunning mirror in our collection explaining the use of fruit and vegetables in his carving.
On Saturday 18th September we have a streamed repeat of Elin’s talk at 11am in conjunction with a craft activity for children from 10.30 am, also follow streamed talks during the day with local archaeologists about the medieval Abbey, what can be learned from finds of animal bones and food grains about the monks’ lifestyle, and other food related archaeology in Abingdon’s long history.
