On February 9th 2019, University Church plays host to a charity performance of Handel’s oratorio Jephtha.

World-renowned tenor, James Gilchrist, solos in the title role, alongside students from across Oxford University. All profits will be donated to Homeless Oxfordshire. Jephtha, Handel’s final oratorio, sung in English, tells the story of Jephtha’s rash promise to the Almighty. Should he lead the Israelites to victory, he vows to sacrifice the first creature he meets on his journey home. Unfortunately, upon his return, he is met by his beloved daughter, Iphis…
