Leading Chinese designers to feature in first-ever pop-up curated by Susie Bubble at Bicester Village
For the first time, a unique edit of 10 cutting-edge young Chinese designers are to be featured at Bicester Village, to mark Chinese New Year. ‘Celebrating China’, a pop-up curated exclusively by leading fashion influencer Susie Bubble, will be hosted by the Oxfordshire-based shopping destination from 29 January to 17 February.
Housing well-established designers such as Huishan Zhang – a former winner of the BFC Fashion Trust Award and a LVMH award finalist – together with a slew of rising stars whose designs strike a powerful chord with fashion-forward millennials, ‘Celebrating China’ offers guests to Bicester Village an exciting opportunity to shop leading Chinese brands all under one roof. New-generation designers include the likes of Ryan Lo, Anaïs Jourden, Mukzin, I Am Chen, Marie Yat, Xu Zhi, Matter Matter, Yang Li and Snow Xue Gao; all powerful voices on the catwalks of global fashion weeks and many recipients of the world’s most prestigious new-talent awards.
“Chinese designers have come into their own in the last few years with so many graduating from the world’s top fashion schools, launching their own labels and showcasing these in London, New York and Paris. Their work covers the spectrum of aesthetics and extends far beyond their own cultural parameters. It’s a really exciting time for young Chinese designers today,” says Susie Bubble, AKA Susie Lau, whose immensely popular blog Style Bubble firmly established the writer-editor as a respected voice on the British fashion scene.
In keeping with the tremendous savings offered by all 11 Villages in The Bicester Village Shopping Collection, items at the new Bicester Village boutique will be available at village prices, from as little as £50 for T shirts and lingerie.
Inspired by a thoroughly modern millennial China, the purpose-designed boutique will feature a clever configuration and an ingenious use of muslin drapes to create a dreamy, ethereal look. All furnishings have been sourced by China Design Centre, a collective of contemporary Chinese artists whose partnership with British creatives is designed to foster a platform of collaboration between the two nations. Beijing-based neon artist Juno Shen, meanwhile, has been commissioned to produce a series of limited-edition artworks specially for the pop-up.
A unique window into the world of leading Chinese design, Celebrating China forms part of Bicester Village’s special line-up of events scheduled to mark Chinese New Year in 2019. Supporting attractions include ‘YiFang’ Taiwanese fruit tea pop-up and South East Asian fusion cuisine at the Village’s recently opened Shan Shui restaurant, the brainchild of famed restaurateur Ellen Chew. A number of the Village’s coveted high-end brands will also participate with additional savings during the celebratory period.
Setting an inspired tone for things to come, the pop-up also launches Bicester Village’s New Voices 2019 programme, a year-long series of events aimed at providing a global stage for some of the most thrilling creatives currently being heard in the worlds of fashion, art and design.
Celebrating China – A Pop-Up Boutique by Susie Bubble will be open exclusively at Bicester Village from Tuesday 29 January to Sunday 17 February 2019.
