Judges awarded Oxford Bus Company and parent company The Go-Ahead Group with Most Innovative Customer Serving Operator at the official presentation ceremony at Landing Forty Two in London, following the successful introduction of PickMeUp in Oxford. The awards reward organisations which have worked tirelessly to build, establish and deploy successful smart ticketing programmes across Europe.
Phil Southall, Oxford Bus Company Managing Director said: “The award recognises the vision of Oxford Bus Company and Go-Ahead to ensure a world where every journey is taken care of and our commitment to innovate and embrace technology to deliver an ever-improving customer experience.
PickMeUp uses the very latest mapping and coordination technology. It is still a new concept but can be part of the solution in in tackling air quality and traffic congestion, both in Oxford and elsewhere.”
PickMeUp, the demand responsive ride-sharing service, was one of the country’s first transport service of its kind when it was introduced in Oxford in June, to date it has had over 60,000 journeys. It enables passengers to request a mini-bus pick-up within an average 15-minute wait time at a virtual bus stop using a mobile phone app. The service provides flexibility for passengers to choose both the start and end point of their journey within the Eastern Arc of Oxford. Passengers are matched with others wishing to make similar journeys to enable ride sharing. It was designed to help reduce congestion and compliment traditional bus services.
