Visit the River & Rowing Museum in its beautiful riverside location in Henley on Thames. The doors of the Museum’s award-winning David Chipperfield designed building open onto the art and stories of the river including the enchanting family-friendly Wind in the Willows, the history of Henley, riverbank wildlife conservation, and the sport of rowing. The galleries include interactive displays and objects of international significance. The Museum hosts a lively programme of special exhibitions from partners including the Ashmolean, Seven Stories and the V&A, complemented by curator talks and hands-on workshops for all ages. The Museum’s Café terrace overlooks Mill Meadows, and its shop celebrates local suppliers, specialising in children’s books and games, jewellery and craft.
Wind in the Willows
Visitors young and old will love this enchanting recreation of the riverbank world of The Wind in the Willows by Kenneth Grahame. The walk-through gallery of this treasured story of friendship features 3D models, theatrical lighting and music.

‘Rest and Recuperation for the River & Rowing Museum’
The Museum will close on 1st October for a minimum of six months. During the closure, restoration and renovation work will be undertaken to secure an exciting future for the museum. After 25 years, the building requires some restoration and renovation. Over the next 12 months, the museum will become a hive of activity as it prepares to usher in its next era. The museum will re-launch in time for its 25th anniversary in 2023.
