SOFO offers visitors engaging and immersive experiences through a changing exhibitions programme and main galleries including a recreated Great War trench, a mock up section of a Horsa Glider from D Day and Afghan Alley.
The galleries take visitors through the life of a ‘21st Century Soldier’, the ‘Blood and War’ of the frontline, Winston Churchill and the Queens Own Oxfordshire Hussars and the ‘Liberation of Bergen-Belsen’ by the Oxfordshire Yeomanry as well as ‘Prisoners of War, at Home and Abroad’.
For visiting children, the SOFO offers an under-fives den, Kids Art Cart, trails and quizzes as well as dress up, feely boxes and code breaking!

Dates for the Diary:
Oxfordshire Remembers Part 2: Supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund SOFO’s closing exhibition on the Centenary of the Great War charts the impact of the war for Oxfordshire during 1916-1918 and the key moments for the county’s two regiments. Using narratives and artefacts previously untold and unseen, the exhibition will blend the personal with the world’s account of the First World War. The exhibition will close in November 2018.

Exhibition charting the Second World War invasion of Normandy by allied forces. Combining information panels from the National Army Museum with the regimental history and artefacts from SOFO's own archives to give an Oxfordshire perspective on D Day and the events surrounding it. SOFO Museum Open Tuesday - Fridays, 10am to 5pm. Saturdays 11am to 5pm, and Sundays 2pm - 5pm. Last admission at 4.15pm.

Hayes CBE details the many escapes of Lt Mike Sinclair KRRC, captured at Calais May 1940 and killed at Colditz in September 1944 on his ninth escape attempt. He never made ‘a home run’ but he spent more time free in occupied Europe than any other POW.
