The Story Museum is a most unusual museum in the heart of Oxford, where great stories are collected and shared. Through immersive installations and gallery spaces, exhibitions and events, the museum celebrates stories in all forms, and promotes their enduring power to teach and delight.

The Galleries include:

  • The Whispering Wood

Enter a mysterious indoor forest where every tree has a story to tell and a secret to reveal.
The Whispering Wood is an immersive exhibition with something for all ages. 

  • The Enchanted Library

Experience a library like no other. Where else can you wander between the shelves and find yourself inside stories?
The Enchanted Library is an immersive exhibition with something for all ages.

  • The Treasure Chamber

Visit this new exhibition space which hosts touring exhibitions and visiting treasures.

 

Small Worlds

Welcome to a patchwork land of picture books, nursery rhymes and traditional tales for the very young.
Small Worlds is a separately ticketed story-themed play space specially designed for pre-school children.

City of Stories

Board the Storycraft and fly through a thousand years of Oxford’s story history, from ancient myths of dragons and queens, legends of kings and wizards to classics of children’s literature from Alice to Lyra. This is the perfect introduction to a Story Museum visit or walking tour of the city.
City of Stories is an audio-visual experience for ages 5 upwards. The experience lasts 45 minutes.

The Woodshed

There’s something exciting in the Woodshed … this new studio theatre invites audiences of all ages to experience the pleasure of story and the power of live performance.

Café and Shop

Give your appetite the happy ending it deserves by visiting The Story Museum café. With a delicious menu of homemade dishes, this independent café serves food to suit all ages and appetites including a selection of gluten-free and vegan options.

Browse through a well-stocked selection of books and book-related gifts in the shop – available to museum-goers and drop-in visitors.
