Purcell’s glorious 1692 Ode for St Cecilia’s Day, Hail! Bright Cecilia, falls the night before the patron saint of music’s own feast day. It is paired with the Dies irae of Michel-Richard de Lalande, court composer to Louis XIV, in the 300th anniversary year of his death, and Handel’s majestic coronation anthem My heart is inditing.
Performed on period instruments by one of Oxford’s leading period-instrument ensembles, this is a rare chance to hear three masterpieces of the English and French Baroque side by side.
Tickets £19.50 to £40 (some £19.50 seats have a restricted view); full-time students £10 to £25; under-18s £8 to £20. Oxford students can use the code OXON30 for 30% off student tickets until 4 November. Wheelchair and access seats available.
