The long-established and highly-regarded Summertown Choral Society’s Summer Concert looks back through various strands of twentieth-century American music and English part-songs before concluding with a Mass showcasing the musical traditions of central Europe in the later nineteenth century.

Randall Thompson – ‘Choose Something like a Star’ from Frostiana
Dvořák – Mass in D

Dvořák declared himself ‘supremely pleased’ with his Mass in D. From the lilting Kyrie, through the fanfare of the Gloria, to the final ‘dona nobis pacem’ this is a work of lyrical meditation and harmonic richness with expressive melodies often reminiscent of folksongs.

This promises to be a wonderful evening with 4 outstanding professional soloists and the talented and thrilling pianist Julian Littlewood, as well as Summertown Choral Society in fine voice.
