Looking for a family day out that’s a little different this summer?

Theatre on the Farm, an independent outdoor theatre company near Thame, invites families to follow the Yellow Brick Road in a magical new production of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.

Performed by a professional cast of six actors, this immersive adventure transforms the Oxfordshire countryside into the Land of Oz. Rather than sitting in one place, audiences journey alongside Dorothy through fields and farmland, meeting beloved characters, solving challenges and helping her find the Wonderful Wizard.

Before the adventure begins, families are invited to arrive up to 30 minutes early to explore Dorothy’s Farmyard, included in every ticket. Children can collect eggs, make potions, create poppy crafts that become part of the story, enjoy ride-on mini tractors, dress up and have their faces painted before joining a lively barn dance led by live musicians.

As the cyclone whisks everyone away to Oz, the audience sets off on a gentle guided promenade across the farm. The walk is relatively short, broken up by scenes, games and opportunities to rest, before the story concludes beneath a giant Tipi tent where seating is provided for the final chapters.

Whether your family loves joining in or prefers simply to watch, participation is always optional and our actors guide everyone through the experience together.

Created as part of Theatre on the Farm’s home-produced Summer of Wonder 2026, the production celebrates professional outdoor theatre while supporting local performers, creatives, volunteers and work experience opportunities for emerging theatre-makers.
