Taking place on Sunday October 5th, this exclusive event celebrates Alain LeRoy Locke (1885–1954) the first Black Rhodes Scholar, celebrated philosopher, and intellectual and a centenary of his seminal work as the architect of the Harlem Renaissance.

Beneath dazzling chandeliers, in The Randolph’s Grand Ballroom, they will enjoy a meticulously curated Alice in Wonderland afternoon tea featuring an array of freshly prepared finger sandwiches, warm scones with clotted cream and preserves, and an assortment of delicate pastries, all accompanied by a selection of fine teas. From meticulous archival research to engaging public storytelling, Black Oxford champions diversity in historical discourse and inspires the next generation of Black scholars through its outreach, partnerships, and educational programmes. In 2025, it broke new ground by launching the city’s first ever guided bus tours dedicated to exploring the hidden Black heritage of Oxford—offering audiences a unique, immersive journey through centuries of untold stories.
