Blenheim Palace and Fashion Museum Bath collaborate for Icons of British Fashion exhibition

The Fashion Museum, Bath is loaning Jean Muir, John Galliano and Vivienne Westwood pieces as well as 29 iconic Rootstein mannequins to the Icons of British Fashion exhibition at Blenheim Palace – the biggest exhibition to date at the UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Each year, the Fashion Museum invites a respected expert from the fashion industry to select a Dress of the Year that encapsulates the prevailing mood of fashion, represents the past year and captures the imagination. The outfit is then added to the Fashion Museum’s world-class collection of more than 100,000 objects.

About Blenheim Palace

Home to the Dukes of Marlborough since 1705, the Oxfordshire Estate was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1987.

Set in over 2,000 acres of ‘Capability’ Brown landscaped parkland and designed by
Vanbrugh in the Baroque style, Blenheim Palace is also the birthplace of one of Britain’s most famous leaders, Sir Winston Churchill and it was his father who described the vista, on entering the Estate from the village of Woodstock, as the ‘finest view in England’.

About Fashion Museum Bath

As we embark on our ambitious plans for a bold new museum in the heart of Bath, the Dress of Year Collection helps the Fashion Museum to continue to chart the key looks in contemporary fashion, as we have been doing for the past 60 years. The latest addition to the collection – Dress of the Year 2023 – will be revealed later this year.

The Fashion Museum’s collection is currently being housed in heritage glove maker Dents’; headquarters in Warminster, as planning gets underway to embark on a major transformation to build a flagship new fashion museum, archive and community space for Bath and the UK.

The new Fashion Museum will reopen in the Old Post Office in Bath city centre. The museum will explore the past, present and future of fashion, extending the reach and reputation of the internationally respected fashion collection, which is exhibited worldwide.
