Charity members enjoy hair and beauty treatments at City of Oxford College and University Centre

Members of MyVision, an Oxfordshire-based charity supporting individuals living with a visual impairment, visited City of Oxford College and University Centre today (Wednesday 17 April) to take part in a wellness day.

Guests were welcomed to the college on Oxpens Road by Public Services students, who escorted them to the hair and beauty salon, where they enjoyed a morning of pampering and relaxation aimed to enhance their wellbeing.

The wellness day consisted of two sessions, where guests were able to pick two hair and beauty treatments, followed by afternoon tea, prepared and served by the college’s Hospitality and Professional Cookery students.

Andy Smith, Service Delivery Manager at MyVision said: “We all really enjoyed our day of pampering! The students showed so much confidence and professionalism in delivering the treatments and serving up the delicious food. We were all so impressed.

“Today was a great opportunity for our charity and the college to work together and enable the students to work with people with visual impairments. This is something that will happen in the real world so is great practice for them, and we’re really excited about working with the college more in the future.”

Zahra Haleem, who is studying a Women’s Hairdressing Level 2 Diploma at City of Oxford College and University Centre, said: “I really enjoyed the day, it was great to work with some new clients and they were all really friendly. I did some haircuts, shampoo and blow-dry and conditioning treatments.”
“I also did a gent’s haircut today which was great practice, as I usually do women’s hair. It was also a great opportunity to work with a local charity.”
