Festive family fun at Westgate Oxford with character visits, choirs, and more
Westgate Oxford is inviting families to meet their favourite characters for free this Christmas, including Pingu, The Grinch, The Snowman™ & The Snowdog, and more from 6th December.
The events take place every weekend from 6th – 21st December in Leiden Square, and guests must book free tickets in advance to secure admittance. To receive ticket information and links, released ten days before each weekend of events, guests can sign up to PLUS+ for free at https://www.westgateoxford.co.uk/en/plus.
There will be five sessions each day, all fully accessible, with one daily slot designed to be suitable for Special Educational Needs.
The full schedule of events includes:
- 6th December: The Gruffalo & The Gruffalo’s Child
- 7th December: Pingu
- 13th December: Wallace & Gromit
- 14th December: Elves Behavin’ Badly
- 20th December: The Grinch
- 21st December: The Snowman™ & The Snowdog
Families can also enjoy Westgate Oxford’s new Alice in Wonderland-themed trail, Hatter’s Hunt, produced by The Story Museum. Completely free to complete, the trail invites guests of all ages to go down a rabbit hole of clues, riddles, and surprises to find five plaques hidden through the centre in exchange for prizes. Pick up a trail map from the Guest Services Desk to take part.
The festivities don’t end there, as weekend shopping visits throughout December will be soundtracked by live performances from local choirs including Queen’s College Acapella Group, Rock Choir, Oxford Gospel Choir, String Fever, and Oxfordshire Operatic Society, plus guests looking for a hand with their Christmas gifting can have items wrapped on-site when making a donation to one of Westgate Oxford’s charity partners from 24th November to 24th December.
Making the festive shopping even easier, members of the PLUS+ rewards club can take advantage of PLUS+ Concierge, a free service allowing users to browse and dine without carrying shopping bags. All purchases are stored by Guest Services for collection or home delivery.

To complete the perfect festive day out, guests can enjoy seasonal menus at Comptoir Libanais, Mowgli, Snowflake Gelato, and more, as well as unique experiences such as Victors’ magical rooftop igloos: seating up to eight people and guaranteed to be cosy with heaters and blankets, open from 17th November and available to book now.
