Updated activities announced for final week of City’s Alternative Christmas Experience as Santa’s Sustainable Top Swap returns

The final week’s activities and experiences have been announced at ‘WasteLess Wonderland’, Westgate Oxford’s alternative Christmas experience and due to popular demand, Santa’s sustainable toy swap shop is back.

This Saturday, from 12pm-4pm, the toy swap will return to Westgate Oxford, so clear out those good quality toys that are no longer played with and take part in a free swap where guests can exchange theirs for a different new-to-you toy.

Designed and curated by HemingwayDesign, this year’s festive experience at Westgate Oxford is a contemporary reinterpretation of the classic Christmas market with a sustainable theme.

There will be workshops, stalls and experiences running every day in the run up to Christmas from this Friday 15 December until Friday 22 December – they include:

  • 3D puzzle workshops
  • Festive decoration workshops
  • Upcycled T-shirt yarn weaving
  • Visible mending with Cancer Research
  • Kaleidoscope making with Natasha Hicken
  • Carol singers
  • Toast pop-up bar
  • Festive entertainment with Oxfordshire Drag Collective and Count Indigo
  • Climatarian Kitchen will be serving a pay-what-you-can feast

Meanwhile, Oxfordshire’s first Charity Super.Mkt – which opened inside Westgate Oxford recently – will also be part of the week-long line up of attractions in Leiden Square.

The hugely popular ‘department store for second-hand style’, which was launched earlier this year by Maria Chenoweth and Wayne Hemingway, has been hugely popular with shoppers and will open an additional pop-up within the ‘WasteLess Wonderland’ experience.

On each of the two remaining Fridays, from 3-7pm, there will be a ‘Recycled DJ Party’ with Charity Shop DJ using vinyl records sourced solely from charity shops. Guests can pick a record, get behind the turntables and have a go at being a DJ themselves, dedicating their tracks to friends at the event.

Brendan Hattam, Centre Director at Westgate Oxford, said: “WasteLess Wonderland has been a wonderful addition to the centre this Christmas and we’re delighted that we’ve been able to showcase it for the first time in the UK, here in Oxford.

“As the Christmas countdown begins, we’ve still got plenty of attractions to experience and great gifts to choose from.”

Wayne Hemingway from Hemingway Design said: “Whilst most of us love Christmas, it’s a time when we buy more than we need and then there are those well-meant but unwanted gifts, so our sustainable toy swap shop is back this Saturday.

“There’s loads happening right up to, and including, Friday 22 December. We’ve expanded Charity Super.Mkt into Leiden Square to keep up with demand, so for anyone who hasn’t yet been down to this first-of-a-kind Christmas experience, get your skates on.”
