Household crowned Energy Saving Champions

A UK household has been crowned the UK’s energy saving champion following an eco-friendly challenge that was launched during Big Energy Saving Week by UK housebuilder, Pye Homes.

Across the four-week challenge, residents who participated in the eco challenge monitored their normal energy usage for two weeks. They were then provided with a guide to energy-saving tips and tricks, which they could then introduce for the subsequent fortnight. Whichever household saw the biggest net percentage reduction in energy consumption would be crowned the winner.

The Martin family from Bromsgrove in Worcestershire, was crowned the challenge’s winner, significantly reducing their energy by 58% after implementing the expert tips and tricks. As well as the kudos of being the UK’s energy saving champion, the Martin family won a fantastic £400 eco-conscious prize bundle, featuring:

  • Shark NeverChange5 Air Purifier Compact Pro
  • Ninja CRISPi 4-in-1 Portable Glass Air Fryer
  • £100 online voucher for eco-conscious retailer Peace With The Wild

The challenge was launched to reflect Pye Homes’ strong focus on energy efficiency and sustainability across its various housing developments, including its newest sustainable living project, Welborne Garden Village in Hampshire.

Welborne homes blend traditional building methods with cutting-edge technology, featuring a groundwater energy network that efficiently heats and cools homes, cutting carbon emissions by up to 50% versus air source heat pumps and up to 90% versus traditional gas boilers.

Karis McMahon-Lane, Marketing Manager for Pye Homes and Blenheim Estate Homes, said: “We’re thrilled to crown the winner of our 2026 Energy Saving Challenge. Their dedication shows how small, practical changes at home can make a real difference to energy consumption, household bills, and the environment as a whole. We hope their saving successes motivates other UK households to embrace a more sustainable way of living.”

Competition winner, Hannah Martin, commented, “Taking part in this competition has been a brilliant experience, it has definitely made me mindful of how much energy can be unnecessarily consumed. I’ve noticed a big reduction in my bills from making a few small changes: washing on a lower temperature and lowering the thermostat by a few degrees truly does make a difference!”
