Blenheim Palace in full bloom this National Rose Month

Blenheim Palace is welcoming visitors to celebrate National Rose Month, showcasing a spectacular display of roses and alliums in the UNESCO World Heritage Site’s Rosarium.

This year, the Rosarium features 50 new rose varieties, planted in late 2024, which are blooming beautifully. The roses are complemented by vibrant alliums, an added pest deterrent with its onion-like scent, and Nepeta (catmint) which will be in full bloom and attracting plenty of beneficial insects.

Andy Mills, Head Gardener at Blenheim Palace, said: “Our new roses are thriving, and the companion planting really brings the Rosarium to life. The combination of roses, alliums, and catmint, not only creates interest with colour, height, texture, and their scents, but is also encouraging biodiversity and reducing pests and diseases naturally. We can’t wait to welcome visitors this National Rose Month.”

The gardens are being carefully nurtured with monthly organic sprays to meet the roses’ nutritional needs and keeping them healthy and resilient.

Beds were cleared last October which will soon be planted with over 500 Dahlia tubers, currently growing in the Palace’s greenhouses, providing a spectacular display of colour later this season.

During a visit to Blenheim Palace during National Rose Month, visitors can expect to see a tapestry of colour as the Rosarium blooms.

Admission to the gardens and parkland are included with a valid Palace, Park & Gardens Ticket or Palace and Play Pass – to book go to www.blenheimpalace.com/tickets
