Blenheim Palace reveals all-new features in its illuminated trail for Christmas 2026

Christmas at Blenheim Palace returns from 13th November 2026 to 3rd January 2027 with a collection of its largest installations to date, with new features that have been designed to immerse visitors in festive lights, sounds and experiences, including a spectacular 10-metre Butterfly Tree, 10 hot air balloons, a 35-metre 360-degree choir, an interactive Christmas Disco and more.

Following the announcement of this year’s highly anticipated theme, Cinderella Inside The Palace, one of the biggest new additions to the Illuminated Trail will be the Christmas Disco, giving families the chance to stop, dance and celebrate together. Extending across a 28-metre installation, the festive disco will combine a colourful illuminated dance space with suspended mirror balls, light effects and playful projected graphics. Visitors can sing and dance along to an uplifting seasonal soundtrack, creating joyful festive moments unlike anything previously seen on the Christmas trail.

The experience continues inside a new Christmas Snow Globe, where visitors can enter a world designed to evoke the magic of standing inside a giant illuminated snow globe. The installation will feature sparkling patterns and colours, delivering a magical experience with highly ‘Instagrammable’ photo moments. The snow globe will sit alongside additional snow effects across the route, turning the Blenheim Palace grounds into a winter wonderland.

Further new features at the Christmas spectacular include:

  • Fire and Ice – a major new synchronised light and special effects show created by Ithaca Studio and Sense Effects supported by Culture Creative’s Lighting Team, with streams of fiery orange and icy blue light across the ground towards a central tree, with colours illuminating its branches before erupting into fountains of flame, water and beams of light.
  • A Butterfly Tree – an illuminated sculpture centrepiece, rising more than 10 metres into the night sky adorned with glowing butterflies extending from its branches. This new installation creates a striking photo opportunity at the beginning of the trail.
  • 10 colourful illuminated hot air balloons – combining extraordinary craftsmanship with hands-on interaction, this is a spectacle powered by people as visitors are invited to pull a simple cord to ‘fly’ each balloon, triggering bursts of light and sound inspired by real burners.
  • The new Choir 360 – a surround-sound festive music and light experience set within the Rose Garden. Visitors will stand at the centre of a 35-metre-wide ring as light and sound travel in harmony, placing visitors within the performance.

Alongside the Great Skate, Christmas Market and, of course, the Palace that will be lavishly decorated and transformed into the magical fairy tale of Cinderella, returning favourites to the after dark trail that boasts more than a million lights include the illuminated tunnel, giant illuminated peonies and the water fountain show.

James Dakin, RG Live, Director of Live Experiences, said: “For over 10 years, Britain’s Greatest Palace has been unrivalled when it comes to Christmas, with magical memories around every corner from the moment you enter. This year there’s even more to enjoy, more to explore and more to experience with a host of new ‘wow’ moments and a real focus on immersive experiences along the trail that bring family and friends together and get everyone in the festive spirit. It truly will be our biggest and brightest one yet.”

Dominic Hare, CEO of Blenheim Palace, commented: “Watching the plans come together and unfold for Christmas 2026 has been truly inspiring. Without giving too much away, the new features such as the Christmas Disco and Fire and Ice display by Ithaca Studio in particular are second to none. The team that works tirelessly behind the scenes all year round in readiness for Christmas has truly outdone themselves, and they are still in the midst of making magic in preparation for this year – we can’t wait to see it all come to life in November.”
