Oxford Castle & Prison Win Silver at Prestigious Tourism Awards

Oxford Castle & Prison have won Silver for Small Visitor Attraction of the Year at the prestigious Beautiful South Awards.


The Beautiful South Awards, organised by Tourism South East recognises achievements for businesses and professionals in the tourism industry over the last 18 months.


Oxford Castle & Prison were awarded Silver for Small Visitor Attraction of the Year sponsored by Pear Communications. Monkey Haven in Newport won Gold and The Museum of English Rural Life in Reading took home Bronze. Chiltern Open Air Museum in Chalfont St Giles and Gilbert White & The Oates Collections in Selbourne were commended.

This year saw a near record number of entries (170) in 23 categories from all parts of the region – 40% more than last year. They were shortlisted from their entry forms and mystery shopped by expert independent judges.


80 finalists were announced along with 24 businesses whose achievements were recognised with commended certificates.


The prestigious awards ceremony was held at the Grand Brighton on the 10th December, and was hosted by Simon Calder, travel journalist and broadcaster.
